Fixed Field is the name I perform under when playing my prepared lapsteel guitar.
A prepared lap steel guitar is a lap steel that I modify with everyday objects to change how the strings vibrate and respond. I use alligator clips, hand fans and an Ebow, along with pedals and effects, to shape the sound in real time.
This turns the instrument into something closer to a sound source than a traditional guitar, capable of drones, pulses and unstable textures.
It should be heard because it challenges what a guitar can be and invites the listener into a more physical and unpredictable way of listening.
