The series of photos taken in the less glamorous parts of Harrogate offers a striking commentary on the town's dual nature.
Utilising a tilt-shift lens, I captured the underbelly of Harrogate, highlighting its gritty and overlooked aspects.
The tilt-shift technique creates a unique perspective, allowing for selective focus that emphasises certain elements while rendering others almost miniature in appearance. This effect, combined with post-processing in Adobe Lightroom, enhances the contrast between the town's quaint façade and its raw, unpolished reality.
These images serve not only as a visual exploration but also as a critique of Harrogate's idyllic reputation. By focusing on the scuzzy areas, I invite viewers to reconsider the narrative surrounding the town, suggesting that beneath its charming exterior lies a more complex and sometimes uncomfortable truth.
This juxtaposition challenges the notion of Harrogate as merely a picturesque locale, urging a deeper reflection on urban life and the stories hidden in plain sight.
