I make Certified Tonk because I am drawn to moments when ego drops away and creativity takes over. An example of this is often found in Improvised music, it can feel like a shared act of discovery - where meaning appears without being forced. That is what this radio show, Certified Tonk, is about.
When I find a new and compelling recording, I want to spend time with it and share that enthusiasm. Broadcasting becomes a way to explore ideas about value, authenticity and what makes something worth hearing.
I am Andy Backhouse, an artist and radio geek based in North Yorkshire. I have always loved radio and see it as a place for exploration, not answers.
This show is an invitation to listen differently, stay present and let the music lead.
Andy Backhouse. A Funny Little Man in Harrogate.
Andrew is a freelance web designer and one of the founders of Harrogate Community Radio. He continues to play an active role at the station and is a self-described wannabe artist who should know better.
