Memories of a Spa Town

The work “Memories Of A Spa Town” deconstructs what it means to listen to a DJ Set.

This work is a recording of a live mix consisting of field recordings I have collected through the past eighteen months of his many years in the spa town of Harrogate, England. These recordings are presented as a living museum of faded grandeur, seen in the light of the pandemic and as a gig-going local. This is my town, as a DJ Mix; warts and all.

Radio art is a form of sound-based storytelling that sits at the intersection of broadcasting, performance and sonic experimentation.

It plays with the unique qualities of radio-its intimacy, immediacy and reach-to create immersive listening experiences.

Unlike traditional radio formats, radio art often blurs the lines between narrative, soundscape and abstraction. It can be live or pre-recorded, structured or improvised, but it always invites the listener to engage in a more active, imaginative way.
