I walk to make art. Each walk is a live encounter with place, sound and time - unrepeatable, and complete in itself.
I move through landscapes and urban spaces with close attention, listening to what is already there: footsteps, weather, traffic, birdsong, the sounds people leave behind without thinking.
From each walk, I create a sound map - a recorded guide you can download and use to trace the same route. The recording is not the art. It is a product made from the original experience, so you can carry it with you.
My work is an invitation to pay more attention to the places you move through every day. Sound pulls you into the present moment faster than almost anything else.
Each sound walk is released as a finite downloadable edition, priced to reflect the time and attention that went into making it.
I recorded this walk to Major Tom's Social in Harrogate, North Yorkshire on a July afternoon in 2015 using binaural microphones. The result is a close, head-worn sound that puts you inside the journey rather than outside it.
I recorded and mixed the piece in Harrogate, then processed it as a dub, using space, delay and subtraction to pull out what sits beneath the surface of an ordinary walk. The familiar becomes slightly strange. The mundane holds more than it first appears to.
This piece asks what we miss when we move through the world with purpose.
