Andrew Backhouse is an artist specialising in sound and visual media, particularly collage. His work is centred around a desire to evoke feelings of awe, innocence, and excitement upon uncovering a beautiful item.
His aim is to make the beauty of everyday objects everlasting, while also bestowing them with a deeper meaning.
Drawing inspiration from the Lakes Poets, Edward Lear, Jez Riley French, AGF and RuPaul, Andrew’s art explores “The new shiny thing” and seeks to share his passion for it, while simultaneously raising questions about its authenticity and value.
He poses a thoughtful question – can the audience, now removed from the original context, experience the same attraction to the work as the artist himself?
