Falling Back In Love With My Ricoh GRII
I’d like to sing the praises of the Ricoh GR II. It is quite an old camera and has been superseded by the Mk. III – but I have regrown my soft spot for it. Here are some images…
Why am I so keen on the GR II? Well, because it helped me recover from Gear Acquisition Syndrome – I was under the under the impression that if I kept on buying better cameras then I would eventually become a better photographer; this was not the case…
Shooting with one camera and one lens helps get over ‘photographers block’. There is no need to think; just shoot. It helps me shoot more and it takes a lot of the cognitive process out of the action – almost in a zen way; when I sit, I sit // when I shoot I am a photographer.
I did make enquiries about a Leica Q camera – but, that was a bit rich for my taste. Better stick with a camera that you would not mind getting damaged than have a priceless (and, un-replaceable lens) on the shelf.
So, it boils down to the fact that photography should be about the photography and not the tools to do it – kind of a no brainer, but it is allowing me to free up my process – now to get the rest of the my practice so efficient…. Thanks for reading. Andy x
